Country Garden

I was out walking one day, when I came across this garden and knew immediately that I had to paint it.  Whoever planted it had a very green thumb and the eye of an artist.  I admired the simple beauty and the effect of carefree abandon.  There was a sense of chaos about it, with plants scrambling over each other, vying for the spotlight.  Yet it all came together in a cohesive way.  I loved how the bright yellows played off the oranges, that moved into deep reds, mixed with purples and blues.  Most of the flowers were tall, each one trying to outgrow the others, yet there was even more colour splashed in between the tall stems closer to the ground.  Everywhere I looked was a feast for the eyes.

I want to mention that I also have a green thumb, but it is usually from getting my hands in the paint and is often mixed with purples and yellows and any other colours I’m working with at the time.  I am grateful to the artist who designed this garden, allowing me to reproduce this real-life work of art into a painting that will hopefully bring the warmth of summer into someone’s cold winter day.

Country Garden is currently on display at Parkside Art Gallery in 100 Mile House until September 12, 2020. It has been sold.

Country Garden is a 12 X 16” acrylic on canvas and can also be viewed in the Acrylic Gallery section of this website.
